New business: Globe, Smart battle over duo service

Monday, June 29, 2009

MORE than 17,000 subscribers have availed themselves of Globe Telecom’s converged mobile and fixed landline services, which allow unlimited calls between landlines and mobile phones and operate in the same area code just a month after the product was launched, a Globe official says.

Menchi Orlina, head of Globe Telecom’s Consumer Broadband Business Group, said Globe expected 2009 to be another exciting year for the telecom industry with the launch of Duo and its worldwide inter-operability for microwave access (wimax), and with the converged service now also available to pre-paid subscribers in Metro Manila and Cebu.

Globe is claiming the patent for Duo, but its rival Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. has introduced its version of the dual service, which involves a second SIM that may be inserted in mobile phones or other wireless handsets to make unlimited landline calls from anywhere in the country.
(my comment: but SUN should not be left out of the view since it has several amazing offers at least for Manila residents which I hope SUN starts in Cebu soon as well) see article above with photos of the SUN deals.) where for 799 pesos a month you get unlimited landline calling and unlimited texting and calling on cell calls SUN to SUN.
