Telecom firms’ dispute over Fort Boni to be settled soon

National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) which ordered PLDT and Globe to strictly comply with the provisions of memorandum circular 05-05-02 and to cease and desist from performing further acts that will prevent Innove Communications Inc., a unit of Globe Telecom, from implementing and providing telecommunications service in the Fort Bonifacio Global City.  Globe intends to transfer the company’s headquarters from Mandaluyong City to Taguig.

The NTC’s October 2008 decision stemmed from a complaint filed by Innove, which claimed it was being prevented by PLDT, BCC and FBDC from making further infrastructure installations and service provisioning in the BGC.

According to a PLDT and Bonifacio Communications Corp. (BCC) official, the two phone companies are engaged in an ongoing discussion for a possible settlement.

Innove said it has no remedy available except to seek recourse from the NTC to enforce its 2002 circular declaring the BGC an information-technology hub, which makes it a “free zone.” This means that any carrier can operate within the BGC.
